DAV Hunts
Disabled American Veterans' Hunt
In 2017, Itasca Gun Club made a decision to close the range during deer opener weekend. This was done partly to be a good neighbor and give the local residents some quiet after two weeks of sighting in hunting rifles. The club chose to use the opening weekend of 2018 to hold a deer hunt opportunity for Disabled American Veterans (DAV). This year, Marine Staff Sergeant Jake Turner was at the range assisting fellow Marine DAV Corporal Tony Austin.
SSGT Turner is on Active Duty and is a Marine Recruiter in this area. Being new to the area, and not having a hunting spot lined up, he asked if he could also hunt our property. Conley Janssen, the IGC Chief Instructor and Joe Oliver, IGC President approved the request. SSGT Turner took this nice four pointer on Sunday. We would like to congratulate SSGT Turner on his good luck, and for being there to help CPL Tony Austin. We would like to thank both of them for their service. We would also like to thank Tike Sutherland from Tike’s Trophy Meats for processing SSGT Turner’s deer at no cost.
