On Saturday October 16th Itasca Gun Club will have a range work day. We will begin at 09:00, and continue until the work is finished. The purpose is to prep the rifle range so that we’re ready for our annual Sight In Days. We need people who are willing to put in up to 4 hours of work.
None of it is hard work, it’s just a lot of small projects that go faster when there are more people there. And there’s coffee and doughnuts. Since we’re an all-volunteer club and each member is expected to volunteer 4 hours a year, this is a good opportunity to get some time in. All volunteer hours are tallied, and are used as in-kind donations when we’re applying for grants.
Most of the prep effort goes into repairing targets and target frames. This involves basic carpentry – removing and replacing 2x4’s, lathe and backer boards. Bring battery drills, Torx bits, saws, hammers. We also need help just cleaning up the shooting line area – sweeping, clearing off benches, picking up brass. Sometimes we need to spread more wood chips onto the range walkways. There are weed whippers and brush cutters if any touch up work needs to be done. The office and garage need to be set up to be ready for selling sight in tickets, raffle tickets and brass. And there’s always odds and ends of small projects that we can direct you to.
There are slide shows of this annual range prep on our website: 2017 good weather day and 2020 snowy weather day.
Don’t forget to sign up for a volunteer shift during sight in days.
